Not to far from Zalatna (in Romanian Zlatna - Alba county) there is a notice board near the street indicating that we are on the land of Mots people (Ţara Moţilor). The notice board Ţara Moţilor indicates a region of Romania and the Romanian authorities did not ask the removal of the board as it happened in the case of Szeklerland notice board in Szeklerland. The fact of discrimination is evident: Ţara Moţilor is a region populated mainly by romanians, while Szeklerland mainly by Szekler-Hungarians. While the people in Ţara Moţilor can have the feeling of regional identity, those in Szeklerland are deprived of this. It was Mózes Gyula, the president of the Szekler Council of Székelyudvarhely (Odorheiu Secuiesc – Szeklerland – Harghita county) who called the attention of the Szekler National Council to this discriminatory behaviour of the Romanian authorities at the meeting of the Szekler National Council on 25th of October 2008.

The Szeklers’ origin is disputed. The chronicle of a Byzantian emperor, – "Purple-born Constantine" –, suggests them as a people apart from the Hungarians, eventually descendants of the Khazars. As the son of Attila held court in the town of Székelyudvarhely ("Szekler’s courtplace") some people have raised the theory that they are descendants of the Huns. TheSzeklers, our legends all point to our Hun origin | | |

The [building of] Székely National Museum in Sepsiszentgyörgy, Transylvania (1911-2) assembles many aspects of Kós’ ideas of a Transylvanian architecture. It is an historical document in itself, housing the collection and incorporating elements of an ethnographic and historical collection within its structure. There are distinct references in the form, planning and construction of the Museum to a number of Transylvanian castles, fortifications, towers and churches and to the simple form and spirit of the traditional Székely house. It would be impossible to divorce the Museum from the history and traditions of the Székely people and Transylvania and from an ideal based on medieval social forms. The final form of the Museum also related closely to a number of Kós’ earlier projects. ... The Museum could be seen as working across scale, settlement patterns and architectural roles, almost as though it were acting as an encyclopedia, fullfilling the historic role of the church, as a focus within the willage and preserving a village scale in its relationship to the street. At the same time, it embodied a relationship and proportion synonymous with Saxon town architecture. As such, it synthesized seeming contradictions within Transylvanian culture and architecture, recognising the interdependent nature of the development of ethnic cultures in Transylvania. (Anthony Gall: Kós Károly, 2002, 72, 74)
